The Human League achieved synth-pop immortality with “Don't You Want Me,” but they weren't always so perky. The sour, squelching tones of 1980's “Being Boiled” suggest a synthesizer leaking battery acid, while the lo-fi “Boys and Girls” is pop so sparse it almost sounds sinister. Even at their chilliest they can be deeply funky, as they prove with the slinky “You Remind Me of Gold.”
