Initially formed in 1978, The Human League released two dark electronic albums before an acrimonious split in 1980. Founding members Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh departed to form Heaven 17 and frontman Philip Oakey repopulated the League with a new lineup. In 1981, they hit pay dirt with the worldwide multi-platinum album Dare, and by the end of the decade, the band racked up a dozen charting singles and established themselves as the signature synth-pop artists of the ‘80s. They continue to tour and record today.
