Having achieved long-term radio ubiquity with the anthemic “Iris,” The Goo Goo Dolls fully embrace their elder statesmen status on their 11th album. Big guitars and arena-ready refrains abound, with a few key 21st-century flourishes: The propulsive “Over and Over” plays its sparse instrumentation against a backing of stadium chants, while the title track places lead Doll John Rzeznik’s professions of romantic fealty atop a thudding, hip-hop-inspired beat. “Flood,” a besotted duet between Rzeznik and Echosmith singer Sydney Sierota, abandons the riffing for a lighter touch, although the crashing chorus brings to mind love’s initial wallop.
