“I ain’t really had a real conversation with my father in about 10 years,” Norman North tells fellow rising country star and Apple Music Country host Willie Jones, discussing the inspiration behind the new single “Forgive Me”—which the two perform together in this Apple Music Session. “I know I’d seen him in church 10 years ago, and it was the hardest thing to ever deal with because, at this time, I think I just had my first Platinum record, and a pastor was preaching to me, like, ‘You got to forgive.’ My father’s on the pew right behind me with his new wife. When we walked out of church, I’m damn near crying at this point. I just walked up to him, and I told him straight up, like, ‘Hey, bro, I ain’t mad at you.’ Because he didn’t raise me, he ain’t check in. But that was a moment I channelled on this record, along with breaking girls’ hearts, betrayal, all of that. Anything that I haven’t done right, I need my forgiveness.”
