Perth outfit Spacey Jane released their debut album in June 2020, meaning their only opportunity to perform it in front of audiences came during an Australian tour in early 2021. Still, they’ve persevered, writing and recording new material. “It’s been tough, no doubt,” frontman Caleb Harper tells Apple Music. “But we've seen some silver linings, too. It's been great to have time to ourselves, as well as time to record the next album.” And though they’re itching to take the show on the road, they’ve also found new ways to share their music with the world—including paring their sound back for a Home Session EP. “It was heaps of fun stripping it back and messing with the arrangements,” Caleb says, of their songs “Lots of Nothing” and “Booster Seat”. “Working with new sounds and trying things we usually wouldn't gave the tracks a really different feel, like we were writing them all over again.” They also chose to cover Phoebe Bridgers’ “Scott Street”, from her 2017 debut Stranger in the Alps. “The band are all fans of Phoebe and haven’t stopped talking about and listening to her stuff for a while. ‘Scott Street’ especially moves me,” Caleb says. "It beautifully captures the feeling of love lost when you run into someone who used to be a part of your life.” Though it’ll be some time before Spacey Jane are able to perform live again, they’re already excited to share the new sounds, songs and ideas they’ve been working on throughout the pandemic. “It definitely pushed us into new territory as we've just had more time to think about these things,” Caleb says. “We know just how amazing it'll be for everyone to be back playing, seeing and experiencing live music.”
