London-based producer/vocalist Kelly Lee Owens’ recent third album, LP.8, is the sort of moody, inward-looking record that’s perfect for zoning out on while wearing headphones. Not surprisingly, so is her Early Hours DJ mix: It’s an equally contemplative set of experimental compositions and abstract techno that “could either be for the flow throughout the day, leading you up to a beautiful night out, or the journey back from the club, which has echoes and memories of the night itself,” she tells Apple Music. “As always, I wanted to take people on a journey. Starting with the more spacious, ambient sounds, then pointing the listener towards interesting, beautiful percussion and rhythms, building up to occasional glimmers of the club.” Some of her favourite moments come from Surgeons Girl and fellow Welsh artists Overmono, but “I really love everything Aleksi Perälä puts out,” she says. “I’ve never seen someone be so prolific. It's always beautiful ambient sounds with hints of electronic danceable moments. And showing off his versatility here, I included two short tracks in this mix.”
