In 2013 Brighton’s Elli Ingram gained a following online with a smouldering cover of Kendrick Lamar’s “Poetic Justice”. Now she’s found a sound very much her own. Think: late-night jazz-club soul delivered from the cool kid at school. Much like Amy Winehouse, she’s an old soul with a fresh, relatable lyrical honesty. “Table for Two” tells a raw and impassioned tale of unrequited love, the smooth R&B of “Better Alone” is complemented by some even smoother sax and “Sleeping Pill” is sharply punctuated with sass.
