About Gym Class Heroes

Formed in 1997 in Geneva, New York, rock band Gym Class Heroes blend funk, rap, and R&B into their category-defying pop songs. ∙ MC Travie McCoy and drummer Matt McGinley actually met in their high school gym class, and the band self-released their debut album, …For the Kids, in 2001. ∙ Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz signed Gym Class Heroes to his label, Decaydance Records, which released their sophomore album, The Papercut Chronicles, in 2005. ∙ Their breakout hit was 2006’s pop chart-topper “Cupid’s Chokehold,” featuring Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, from their Gold-selling third album, As Cruel As School Children. ∙ In 2007, McCoy befriended his longtime idol Daryl Hall—of Hall & Oates fame—and the veteran pop star sang on “Live Forever (Fly With Me),” from 2008’s The Quilt. ∙ McCoy’s 2010 debut solo album, Lazarus, produced the multi-Platinum worldwide hit “Billionaire,” with vocals by Bruno Mars. ∙ The 2011 album The Papercut Chronicles II included their No. 1 pop song “Stereo Hearts”—with guest vocalist Adam Levine—plus the hits “Ass Back Home” and “The Fighter.”
