Webster Lewis was a popular American composer, arranger, producer, vocalist, and keyboardist in the genres of jazz and disco/R&B. Though best known for his disco hits during the 1970s and '80s, he was initially regarded as a serious jazzman. Lewis' early sideman appearances included replacing Larry Young in Tony Williams Lifetime and joining multi-keyboard projects led by George Russell with Bill Evans, and the Piano Choir. He issued a handful of charting singles and four internationally acclaimed albums for Epic: On the Town (1976), Touch My Love (1978), 8 for the 80's (1979), and Let Me Be the One (1981). Lewis worked as a film and TV composer, and collaborated with a wide variety of artists as an arranger, producer, and composer into the '90s; he also taught at Howard University.
