Founded by Bob Weinstock, Prestige Records was one of America's premier independent jazz labels for more than two decades. Presiding over the rise of the post-bebop vanguard, the label saw legendary engineer Rudy Van Gelder record landmark albums for the likes of Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Thelonious Monk, and Miles Davis during his “first great quintet” era.
