Much like their hippie forebears, Phish are devoted to the transformative powers of live improvisation and genre-dissolving fusion—but with a quirky twist that’s decidedly Gen X. Onstage, the Vermonters build sprawling jams with layers of prog-rock guitar gymnastics, driving rhythms, and harmonies that sound like a barbershop quartet mainlining espresso shots. It’s fun and oftentimes frenetic music that keeps Phishheads dancing for hours on end.
