They may hail from Liverpool but the full-pelt, Cali-influenced pop-punk on this quartet’s debut album is unquestionably more beachfront than Merseyside. “Eastbound & Down” is a lovelorn shot of melodious vitamin D and “The Last Ride” has an arena-ready sheen. Not that WSTR (once called plain old WASTER) don’t live up to their mischievous name—“Gobshite” starts with the sound of hawked phlegm and “Featherweight” evokes a piledriving world of defiant hedonism.
