Masked singer/songwriter and rapper wewantwraiths seeks to be understood purely through his unflinching, reality-driven songs. While the Leicester artist’s identifying information is largely unsearchable, his sound and subject matter are plenty revelatory. He began releasing melodic, enchanting singles that doubled as sobering, cautionary tales of street life in 2020. His debut single from that year—the introspective, yet distant, “Unforgettable”—was inspired by French Montana and Swae Lee’s swaggering 2017 hit of the same name. The fan favourite “Chanaynay” was released shortly after, also in 2020; it focused on wewantwraiths’ aspirations and the sacrifices he’s willing to make to attain them. In 2021, wewantwraiths released back-to-back singles “Voices” and “Know You”, which both dealt with personal subjects: mental health and relationships, respectively. That same year, wewantwraiths continued dropping tracks that simultaneously looked inward and also reflected his extravagant lifestyle, like the passionate, piano-laden “French Kiss”.
