About Sam Fischer
For Australian singer/songwriter Sam Fischer, the greatest triumph of his early career was born out of his lowest ebb. Fischer was born in 1991 on a farm in Grose Vale, near Sydney, and as a boy he soaked up the sounds of his parents’ records, mostly Michael Jackson and the soundtrack to The Bodyguard. As he came of age, he developed enough talent to cross the ocean and attend Boston’s renowned Berklee College of Music. In 2014 Fischer moved to Los Angeles with the goal of getting a record deal. He spent a few years slogging it out, releasing singles and EPs that garnered scant attention, at one point resorting to sleeping in a friend’s car. But his 2018 song “This City”, which he’d written about the beating he was taking in the L.A. music scene, went viral on social media, eventually racking up astounding stats. The music bigwigs came calling, and Fischer had a deal with RCA, which reissued the song at the end of 2019. With its spare arrangement and bittersweet, soulful sound, “This City” became an international hit, putting Fischer on the path to fame. In 2020 RCA released his Homework EP, on which his supple, sensual blend of R&B and pop is sometimes framed by minimal electronics and sometimes presented with a full-band feel. And in the course of entering the spotlight, Fischer showed another side of his talent by contributing songs to an international range of artists, including Elle King, Keith Urban, Andy Grammer and Jessie J.
