Budjerah: Chilling Out
Winter is the season for snuggling up close to someone for shared warmth and affection, and Budjerah had that vibe very much in mind while curating this seasonal playlist of both classic and contemporary R&B and soul. “Winter feels like a warm hug,” he tells Apple Music. The Bundjalung singer-songwriter enjoys hitting the beach and surfing during the mild winters where he lives where he lives in Fingal Head, NSW. “The water is probably the coldest part of winter for me,” he says. In honour of the season, he’s made this lovely, low-key playlist while prepping to jet off to tour internationally with Vance Joy. So turn the lights down low and settle in for the chilly season with these cosy selections, ranging from Whitney Houston to Chaka Khan. “There’s quite a mix of songs on this playlist to suit everyone when you’re sitting around the fire at night,” he says. Hit play and read on for his commentary on three songs in particular. Faith Evans, “Love Like This” “I love Faith Evans a lot! The song is a classic, and this version feels so warm and comfortable. Winter is kinda like the season of love, where you can cuddle with that special someone and keep each other warm. I think this song is that.” Masego and Devin Morrison, “Yamz” “It’s just bouncy. It’s always good to pump yourself up when it’s cold, and that’s what this song is for.” D’Angelo, “Feel Like Makin’ Love” “I thought this one would be good to end the playlist, because it says, ‘Strolling in the park/Watching winter turn to spring.’ That’s super cute. Love makes the season change, but love always stays the same.”
