The ambition and glee in MIKA's cartoon pop is an antidote to singer/songwriter introspection. “Popular Song” and 2007's hit debut, “Grace Kelly”, are both effervescent retorts to perceived slights on the route to the top, while “Love Today” and “Lollipop” play dance-floor games with playground chants. The stately gospel balladry of “Happy Ending” and the moodier disco of “Relax, Take It Easy” suggest the infectious delight has come at a price, but with the flamboyant confidence of “Elle Me Dit” and “Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)”, he remains bulletproof so long as he keeps dancing.
