Queens rapper Rich The Kid is widely seen as one of rap’s premier voices. Yet on Life’s a Gamble, his fourth album, he approaches the booth as if he’s an upstart rookie. Though features on the project range from Peso Pluma to Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, Rich The Kid raps like he has everything to prove. As the title suggests, all this can go away in a second, and he isn’t willing to take any chances. The New York spitter keeps his perspective sharp but still aims for the stars. On the Takeoff-assisted “Warren Buffett”, he grabs inspiration from the Berkshire boss, copping a plane and positioning himself less as a rapper than a CEO of a multifaceted operation. On “How”, which features Jadakiss, Rich showcases his technical chops, going bar for bar with one of the game’s legends. “How I made a million dollars and didn’t go to college?” he asks. The answer? Hard work and, of course, a little bit of gambling.
