Ever since he was a DMC champion as a teenager in Montreal in the ’90s, DJ/producer A-Trak has made a career of blurring genres. Whether via his earliest forays as a hip-hop and scratch DJ, his turn toward house on his own and with Armand Van Helden in Duck Sauce, or bridging indie dance with rap via his Fool’s Gold label, he’s been at the centre of electronic music’s evolution for decades. His 2023 album CLUSTERFUNK, in collaboration with poet Ric Wilson and A-Trak’s brother Dave’s band Chromeo, only further explored new musical terrain. For this edition of One Mix—a showcase of the world’s best DJs and producers in the mix, now in immersive Spatial Audio—A-Trak continues to lay waste to the concept of genre in an exclusive set. Check back often as more of dance music's finest DJs helm One Mix with Dolby Atmos, and read on for a message from A-Trak about his mix. “I’ve always found pleasure in pulling all types of tracks from various sources, different styles, and throwing them together in a mix. To me, the challenge is to make it make sense and find common threads. You can mix a disco-house track with another disco-house track, but sometimes mixing it with a techno track unlocks a whole new dimension. I’m as surprised as the listener when I find these combinations. This mix ranges from 100-BPM funky electronica to fast garage, from house to dark tech, and all the selections have something that tickled me in some sort of way. There’s also another layer to this One Mix: It’s playable in Spatial Audio, and a lot of these tracks didn’t originally exist in that format. There’s so much exciting music coming out all the time, it was fun to just grab a slice and put my spin on it—pun intended.” —A-Trak
