The debut album of blues-rock extraordinaires Heartless Bastards showed a young rock band proving their chops with lowdown, dirty riffage, but on their sophomore LP, All This Time, they hit their stride and reveal that they’ve got some soul. “Into the Open” introduces the album with old-timey piano and Erika Wennerstrom’s lead vocals that channel Patti Smith, while tracks like “All This Time” blend the group’s bare-bones garage-rock riffs with a pop-worthy briskness.
