From the haunting first strains of “Efflux of Time”, as her airy soprano weaves a complex tapestry of tones through an electronic vocal harmonizer, it’s clear that vocalist Aditi Ramesh is an artist with big ideas. The Bengaluru native’s debut EP, Autocorrect, offers a dazzlingly inventive collection of tracks—joyful and free-floating, Carnatic-inspired riffs with surprising shifts in time signature and mood. Ramesh swings on the witty, up-tempo “Marriageable Age” and shows off her bluesy side in “Stuff on Our Minds”. “Small Fish in a Big Pond”, mixing Carnatic-tinged scat with novel vocalese passages, is a showcase for her dazzling range and creativity.
