Slipping between German and English, Barbara Morgenstern mixes a wealth of styles on 2008’s BM. Its nuanced chamber-pop sound is a long way from the electronic textures of her roots in Berlin’s “living-room scene”: On “Driving My Car,” hypnotic pianos recall classical minimalism before the song builds to a clanging rock climax, while “Camouflage” recruits British icon Robert Wyatt for a moody, close-harmonized duet. She cuts to the bone on “Come to Berlin,” driving the sardonic chorus home with bursts of dissonance.
