At just over 30, composer Olafur Arnalds has already had a wildly varied career, ranging from melancholy folk (Island Songs) to electro-acoustic soundscapes (For Now I am Winter) to interpretations of Chopin. His work for the British crime drama Broadchurch draws on all his talents, mixing misty sheets of strings with sub-bass rumbles and lonesome pianos with hazy atmospheres. The result feels both delicate and ominous, melancholy and strangely inviting.
