Canadian dubstep DJ/producer Datsik describes his sound as “dark and robotic,” as well as “funky and gangster.” On his EP Cold Blooded, it’s clear exactly what he means. Songs like “Cold Blooded” and “Juicebox” combine ominous synth melodies with wobble-infused dubstep breakdowns. These sounds are distinctly Datsik, making his production style instantly recognizable among the vast array of dubstep producers. Robotic elements pervade the entire album, but they're particularly present on “Automatik,” “Too Late to Say No,” and “Release Me.” The EP's most uncharacteristic track is “Vindicate,” whose melody is a series of soundbites that sound like they're sampled directly from a '80s 8-bit video game. Whether he's slowing down the beat from traditional dubstep, infusing robotic sounds throughout, or using his distinctive wobble, Datsik creates a sound that's uniquely his.
