Sinaloan songwriter Remmy Valenzuela’s brand of “alt corrido” features sparkling polka rhythms aided by Remmy’s delightfully fleet accordion and endearingly boyish vocals. This collection of rancheros, corridos, and romantic ballads finds the perfect balance between hard-hitting (and audience-pleasing) narcocorrido tales and slower numbers that highlight Valenzuela’s softer side. The achingly sweet “Nadie” in particular displays the singer at his most vulnerable. Fans of Remmy the bandleader should proceed directly to rhythmically knotty workout “Jardín Olvidado” and the uptempo “Dos Amores,” a showcase for accordion lovers.
