Two operatic powerhouses unite for an album of drama, comedy, and passion, their rich tenor and bass voices perfectly matched on this captivating journey through famous and lesser-known Italian and French arias. Bizet’s “Au fond du temple saint” is a triumphant, warmhearted opener reaffirming friendship, which sets the tone as the pair go on to discuss a love potion (“L’elisir d’amore”), comfort each other in affairs of the heart (Don Pasquale), and sign a pact with the devil (Mefistofele). Both singers’ vivid acting is a joy to hear, and the orchestral support is superb.
