Kristofferson was 76 at the time of this album’s release, and its title basically says it all. The balladic title track poetically presents his philosophical attitude toward life's endgame, and the sprightly country waltz "Bread for the Body" explores a similar lyrical perspective. But Kristofferson wasn't ready for any epitaphs—"You Don't Tell Me What to Do" bears plenty of the outlaw attitude that's always been essential to his music, with the singer sounding as weathered and defiant as ever.
