Video game Ghost of Tsushima follows Jin Sakai, a samurai gone rogue who is fighting to protect his island from an invading Mongol army. The protagonist’s struggle between maintaining honour and scoring victory at any cost is played out in the action-adventure’s soundtrack of dramatic compositions mixed with understated, almost eerie scores. Composers Ilan Eshkeri and Shigeru Umebayashi—from Britain and Japan respectively—craft the tracks separately, with Eshkeri drawing from traditional Japanese folk for many of his pieces while Umebayashi paints an atmosphere of bloody conflict with an edge-of-your-seat suite.
