Underpinned by a spiritual impulse, Patoranking’s debut album God Over Everything folds both contemporary and traditional African styles into reggae and dancehall soundscapes. Opening with a prayer from his mother on “Patoranking,” the singer’s first offering was anchored by his faith. “‘God Over Everything’ is how I perceive all I do,” Patoranking tells Apple Music. “It was a prayer God answered that led to all my other albums, milestones, and achievements. I don't take any of that for granted.” This vision is apparent on both the title track “G.O.E” and “Writing on the Wall”—a reverent ballad that expresses Patoranking’s unyielding faith through a confessional lens. The thread of spirituality continues across the project, with a Latin rendition of the Lord’s Prayer preceding “Stammerer” before the Ijegun-Egba-born singer expresses his loyalty in romantic terms over sparse tropical percussion. While Afropop rhythms inform the Wizkid-featuring standout cut “This Kind Luv,” Pato (real name Patrick Okorie) incorporates hip-hop into the Sarkodie-assisted “No Kissing Baby,” “Mama Aboyo” with Olamide, and “Money” with Phyno. It’s the fuji-infused “Ayinde,” alongside veteran musician Kwam 1, that situates Patoranking’s style in a Nigerian sonic context while the bouncy “Daniella Whine” enlists Elephant Man and Konshens to reflect the artist's reggae and dancehall inclinations.
