Since he shot to prominence with 2019’s Gully Boy—for which his supervision helped provide the hip-hop film its much-lauded authenticity—MC Altaf has been widely regarded as one of Indian rap’s most interesting voices. He’s taken his time to release his first album, after putting out a slew of singles and guesting on several other records by fellow MCs. Halaat has Altaf proudly reflecting on the struggle and hustle of life in Mumbai’s Dharavi area as well as celebrating his achievements so far. The bars are sharp, the flow effortless and the vibe characteristically understated yet impactful.
