After more than a decade of recording, The Grascals perfect the balance between newgrass innovation and traditionalism. They’re just as adept at reflective balladry like “Road of Life” as they are at combining a spiritual theme with a honky-tonk vibe on “A Place to Hang My Hat.” Between Kristin Scott Benson’s banjo and Adam Haynes’ fiddle, there’s no shortage of sharp licks, most notably with the madman mandolin of “Delta Queen” and the bucolic, folk-flecked feel of instrumental “Autumn Glen.”
