La Vida A Mi Modo finds Noel Torres at a crossroads. You can still hear the boisterous spirit that animated his early banda hits. Corridos like “La Escuela De Mi Padre” hurtle forward on the same thundering drums and wild outbursts of accordion. But after multiple albums, Torres has also become a master of inventive and immaculate arrangements, somehow without diluting that trademark vitality. When he pairs his rousing voice with delicate guitar on “El Santo Prieto,” Torres manages to infuse this utterly gorgeous music with true exuberance.
