We’ve been captivated by Milk & Bone ever since we first heard “New York,” a piano-driven beauty packed with haunting vocal harmonies and head-clearing electronics. The Montreal duo’s debut full-length—Little Mourning—is a stunning set of similarly spare pop songs that will entrance fans of The xx and Purity Ring. On “Tomadachi,” members Camille Poliquin and Laurence Lafond-Beaulne join forces with Toronto rapper Terrell Morris beside velveteen strings and pulses. On the hypnotic closer, “Watch,” Poliquin and Lafond-Beaulne braid their voices together to devastating effect.
