It’s the quiver in Dean Martin’s voice that makes him utterly charming. Whether describing a recipe for romance (“Memories Are Made of This”) or the moon looking like a big pizza pie (“That’s Amore”), the wobble in his throat sounds like laughter. In more romantic moments (“Innamorata [Sweetheart]”), that tremor takes on a sobbing quality, as if the crooner is overwhelmed with passion. But nothing serious sticks to Dino for long, and he’s soon back to grinning his way through “Mambo Italiano,” glass in hand.
