Melissa's Garage Revisited

Melissa's Garage Revisited

Melissa's Garage Revisited initially appeared as an EP in 1995, featuring the band playing behind singer Jeffery Evans and harmonica player Walter Daniels, and was called Walter Daniels Plays With Monsieur Jeffrey Evans & The Oblivians At Melissa's Garage. In 1999, the EP was re-issued with four tracks by '68 Comeback (which featured Evans and, for a time, Greg Oblivian) added on after the live set that made up the original release. With an extremely lo-fi recording, the album finds the Oblivians in a far bluesier, charmingly sloppy mode than on any of their other material. While the sound may not be optimal for some, the song selection, featuring covers by Bo Diddley and Juke Boy Bonner, is excellent. Meanwhile, the '68 Comeback songs give a good idea where garage rock was in the mid-'90s. Even though it is in fact a different band, fans of the Oblivians particular take on heavily distorted boogie won't want to miss "Sticks and Stones."
