This Scottish-Egyptian violin and cello duo have gained a reputation for their captivating arrangements, whether of traditional folk music or pop classics. Here, Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” is transformed into a wistful waltz and it’s no surprise to hear Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” handed the full orchestral works, since it was the producer who discovered the Ayoubs while selecting winners for an online competition. There are stunning homages to their heritage too, with an evocative Scottish folk medley (“Melodies from Scotland”), and the whirling, seductive Egyptian “Misirlou”.
