For one week in January 2018, Gorillaz leader Damon Albarn’s Africa Express relocated to South Africa's City Of Gold, recording an 18-track album that fused cultures, genres, and generations. The resulting EGOLI finds South Africa's progressive and alternative scene pairing with international acts like Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals and former Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner; and self-described “future ghetto punk” artist Moonchild Sannelly seems to steal every track she appears on. All parties involved help create a sonic tapestry woven with Afropop's most golden of threads.
