This album from French-Danish soprano Elsa Dreisig focuses on 12 Mozart opera roles, including three from each of the three operas setting libretti by Lorenzo da Ponte. Her voice—firm, glowing, and technically immaculate—is an absolute joy, and her way with these very different characters is beautifully conceived. As Elettra (Idomeneo) she is a veritable Spitfire, as Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito) she is cool and calculating, and as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) she totally conveys the character’s subtle complexity. Meanwhile, as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), she perfectly captures her tenderness and justified anger. With stylish support from Louis Langrée and the Basel orchestra, this is a terrific showcase.
