At first, the pairing doesn’t make much sense: Wavves' bratty surf punk and Cloud Nothings’ searingly earnest indie rock? And yet, here it is, an album that manages to combine the particular strengths of each band in a way that ends up making a curious kind of sense. Some of the tracks here stake out common ground (“Nervous”); others work through salty yet sweet juxtaposition (“Come Down”). But the brightest highlight is also the album’s biggest departure: the pretty, drumless, album-closing “Nothing Hurts.”
