Singer/composer G. V. Prakash Kumar’s sonic vision brings hope and whimsy to the short stories of Putham Pudhu Kaalai, particularly its title track. He calls on S. P. B. Charan for the short yet boisterous “Manmadhan Naan Dhaana” and “Oho Endhan Baby”, the latter a playful synthesizer bop between Charan and Bhavani Sre. Kumar also digs into playful European folk with “Kulfi Kuchchi” and “Kannam Adhil Vannam”. Meanwhile, “Kanna Thoodhu Po Da”, composed by Govind Vasantha for vocal legend Bombay S. Jayashri, is deeply rooted in slow, melancholic scales.
