By his fifth album, Matthew Sweet had mastered the art of pinning melancholy to power pop; this is partly why it's aged well since its 1995 release. The singable sadness of “Everything Changes” and “I Almost Forgot” simmer like some early-’70s Beach Boys tune. Songs such as “Get Older” and “Super Baby” are celebrations of small wonders and a big heart, while the pop-infectious “Sick of Myself” is an utterly sincere (and rocking) ode to self. And like some other Sweet albums, this one’s fortified by the unmistakable guitar counterpoints of Richard Lloyd (Television) and Robert Quine (Voidoids).
