Antoniotto: Sonates pour violoncelle et basse continue

Antoniotto: Sonates pour violoncelle et basse continue

Giorgio Antoniotto, two years younger than Vivaldi and the author of a famous musical treatise, L’arte armonica, injured his hand, probably in a duel, and had to give up the violin for the cello. These seven sonatas prove that he became as nifty on his new instrument as on the violin, and were a significant addition to the cello's developing repertoire. Claire Lamquet rises to the challenge of this inventive music with great flair, and her sympathetic interplay with her musical partners is obvious.
