Special King Size Dub

Special King Size Dub

Visionary producer Adrian Sherwood has been among the most important figures in English reggae since he appeared on the scene in the late ‘70s, producing deeply experimental dub with the band Creation Rebel and forging ties between reggae musicians and the more musically adventurous figures on the London punk scene. In 1982 he founded his own imprint, On-U Sound, and began releasing a deluge of exceptional work by artists like African Head Charge, Bim Sherman, Prince Far I, and Dub Syndicate, a loose association of musicians centered around Sherwood and former Creation Rebel drummer Style Scott. The Dub Syndicate anthology Special King Size Dub was released in 2012 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Dub Syndicate and the On-U Sound label. The 15 tracks here provide only a cursory overview of Dub Syndicate’s remarkable discography, but they're uniformly excellent, from the booming Bim Sherman–voiced cover of Lloyd Parks’ badman anthem “Mafia" to “Time,” a deep modern roots cut featuring a blazing toast by Capleton.
