Before the Academy Award, before the MTV reality shows, before the gold and platinum plaques, Three 6 Mafia were just another underground group, trying to make a name for themselves in Memphis. Back in the early '90s, Southern hip-hop had yet to really hit the big time, with a few exceptions; you had to be from either New York or Los Angeles to blow up. DJ Paul's Underground, Vol. 1—For Da Summer came out independently back in 1994, when Three 6 were still total unknowns. This remixed and revamped version appeared in 2002, after their hit DVD/soundtrack Choices. It's loaded with their signature sound of eerie keyboards, crackin' beats, and chanted hooks; any true fan will be totally psyched to hear this. Highlights include the spooky Unsolved Mysteries–sampling "Glock in My Draws" with Frayser Boy, "King of Kings" featuring Hypnotize Camp Posse, and "Back Da F*ck Back" with Lord Infamous.
