A guitarist who's gained acclaim for his work as a sideman with Dr. Lonnie Smith and others as well as a leader of his own band, Jonathan Kreisberg leans toward accessibly melodic lines that are ideal for the tone of his classic hollow-body electric. Here on his 10th album, he’s backed by his working quartet. It's a set long on well-composed originals (the only exceptions are Horace Silver’s ballad “Peace” and the standard “Stella by Starlight”) that are firmly rooted in the bebop tradition with plenty of modern harmonic touches and rhythmic shifts. Highlights include the churning “Wave Upon Wave,” the gentle “Being Human,” and the restless “Until You Know.”
