Revitalized by the chart-topping success of their 2012 single “Where I Belong,” Building 429 sustains its momentum with the consistently strong We Won’t Be Shaken. The Christian pop/rock quartet recalls the ‘90s heyday of such legendary combos as dcTalk and Newsboys with a batch of anthemic rockers and dramatic ballads that combine personal testimony with a universal message of redemption. Producers Jason Ingram, Rusty Varenkamp and Rob Hawkins frame Jason Roy’s heroic yet vulnerable vocals with dynamic arrangements that build to shout-along choruses. Any CCM fan looking for a jolt of inspiration should find it in propulsive tracks like “Bonfire, “Blameless” and “Revolution.” The acoustic guitars and gang vocals of the title track and the body-grabbing shuffle groove of “Get Up” add sonic variety. Roy shares the mic with Group 1 Crew’s Blanca Callahan on “Wrecking Ball (Press On),” a summery shuffle with an island feel. Slinky to thunderous riffage by guitarist Jesse Garcia and muscular drumming by Michael Anderson keeps the music crisp and supple throughout.
