Continuing their tradition of season-themed records, Rivers of Nihil wax philosophical about autumnal decay on their third album. In doing so, they've expanded their sound way beyond the technical death metal of their past, incorporating elements of jazz, electronic, and folk into an ambitiously progressive trajectory. With sax solos ("The Silent Life," the title track) and luminous guitar leads ("Hollow") balancing drilling polyrhythms ("A Home") and mechanized blast beats ("Old Nothing"), Where Owls Know My Name sees the band exploring vast new sonic territories.
