At JERK—the party series the Toronto DJ/producer BAMBII named in a nod to her Jamaican heritage—house, R&B, dancehall, rap, and jungle all mix together in a lively, egalitarian blend. Her debut EP, Infinity Club, is just as proudly multicultural. Following its polyglot introduction—“You are now entering the infinity club,” intones a chorus of voices in different languages—BAMBII tears through a multitude of styles, often within the space of a single track. “One Touch” pairs rolling breakbeats with icy trance synths, a ragga refrain, and the pitched-up vocal chops of contemporary club music. In “Wicked Gyal,” London MC Lady Lykez spits saucy lyrics in Jamaican patois over a low-end riff rooted in UK bass music. “Hooked” and “Slip Slide” both explore slower, slinkier grooves, while the title track is a woozy UK garage throwback. To BAMBII, such divergent styles aren’t boxes to be ticked; they’re all parts of the same continuum, their kinship brought to life by her deft touch.
