About Arild Andersen

Norwegian Arild Andersen is one of Europe's finest double bassists. His credits number in the hundreds across avant-garde, jazz-rock, contemporary jazz, improv, and new age. He appeared with Jan Garbarek on 1967's Til Vigdis and remained his bassist until 1973. Andersen's solo debut, Clouds in My Head, appeared on ECM in 1975, and Lifelines was released in 1981. If You Look Far Enough won global acclaim in 1993, while 1997's Hyperborean featured his quintet and strings. In the 21st century, Andersen released dozens of albums as leader and sideman on various labels. 2012's Celebration was a collaboration with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra. In 2020 he, Clive Bell, and Mark Wastell issued the improvised album Tales of Hackney. The seven-movement suite Affirmation arrived on ECM in 2022. The trio date As Time Passes appeared in 2024, followed by the completely solo bass and electronics album Landloper for ECM.
