Buck Clayton

About Buck Clayton

Trumpeter Buck Clayton is best known for his solo work and arrangements for the Count Basie band during the late '30s and '40s. A consummate mainstream jazz performer, he worked with many notable jazz musicians in the '40s and '50s, and in the mid-'50s he organized a series of rewarding jam sessions for Columbia Records. His last enduring work took place in the early '60s, in collaboration with swing-era compatriot, tenor saxophonist Buddy Tate.
