About Christine Goerke
Goerke is a leading dramatic soprano. Distinguished since the beginning of her career by a strong, rich voice, she specializes in the music of Wagner and Strauss. She landed a spot in the Metropolitan Opera's Young Artists Program from 1994 to 1997, and her early career was boosted by appearances at Carnegie Hall and elsewhere. Goerke debuted at the Met in Mozart's Don Giovanni, and by the end of the 1990s, was appearing at important European houses too. She developed a new specialty in Wagner and Strauss dramatic roles and was cast in the Met's cycle of Wagner's Ring operas. Goerke has made orchestral appearances around the world and became the associate artistic director at the Michigan Opera Theatre in 2021. Goerke recordings began with one devoted to Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes in 1993. She appeared on a recording of Honegger's Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher in 2019.
